Children are eligible for special education services if they have one of the following 13 conditions listed by federal law.

 

The categories might vary from state to state. These conditions are autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, mental retardation, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment including blindness.
